Phony, Phony, Phony
The ice is melting in the arctic, Santa Clause is going to have a heat stroke, the oceans are going to rise. Sea walls will have to be built immediately to protect New York city. Calamities will happen world wide if we don’t send billions of dollars to Washington so government can fix the problem. Just like they solved the housing problem, by making loans to people who couldn’t make a payment on a chicken coop. The housing crisis is not over and when there is a default the tax payer is on the hook, contrary to what Barney Frank promised.
“Glacier Bay was first surveyed in detail in 1794 by a team from the H.M.S. Discovery, captained by George Vancouver. At the time the survey showed a mere indentation in the shoreline. That massive glacier was more than 4,000 feet thick in places, up to 20 miles wide, and extended more than 100 miles to the St. Elias mountain range.
By 1879, however, naturalist John Muir discovered that the ice had retreated more than 30 miles forming an actual bay. By 1916, the Grand Pacific Glacier – the main glacier credited with carving the bay – had melted back 60 miles to the head of what is now Tarr Inlet.” I Have not heard of coastal cities being under water as a result of the melting of said glacier. It is being said that there has not been any global warming since 1998.
Has it occurred to you that this planet is one big piece of real-estate, and atomic bombs volcanoes, solar flares, and wars have not destroyed it. Has it occurred to you that co2 is what plants use to make oxygen. So the conclusion of the matter is, are we being fed a mess of phony science, just so wealth can be redistributed?
Do you think that the lies about Benghazi, are phony? If it was President Obama’s family that was abandoned, and left do die at the hands of the terrorist, I expect that he would see things differently. Sean Smith’s mother was promised that the truth would be forth coming, but as you probably know, the folks that survived Benghazi have been coerced into signing a non disclosure letter. The mother of Sean Smith was told that she was not immediate family, so she was not eligible to be told what happened. Can you tell me when a mother is not a member of the family. Biggest bunch of phonies that ever disgraced the earth.
How about the IRS picking and choosing who could get a tax exempt status. The president ranted and raved about how this was unacceptable and he would see that it was stopped, he is going to get to the bottom of the scandal. Aren’t you thrilled above unbelief that the IRS is going to be in charge of your health care. The only thing that he is going to get to the bottom of, is your pocket.
The President, said he can’t get anything done because of Washington, I guess he gave up on Bush. If he would stay home and stop campaigning, he might accidentally accomplish something. If the man is a leader, I’m a P38 pilot, and I get dizzy watching the ripples in my bath water.
Too many complaints
I am about as tired of listening to Americans complain about their government as I am hearing TV commercials. I have become convinced that a significant number of Americans are habitual malcontents. The longest and loudest complainers seem to be the people who receive the most from that terrible government.
They are overwhelmingly made up of white seniors on Social Security, Medicaid and possibly Medicare in the future. They also usually have income from military or federal retirement and/or from a corporation, that only began retirement program when forced to by unions, with the support of the federal government. Not only are these people not grateful to the source of their livelihood, they would actually deny their children and grandchildren the same retirement benefits they enjoy.
Some believe private industry could provide the same benefits. If that were true, show me the corporation that provided such benefits before unions and the government protection of the rights of labor to organize. With the possible exception of Henry Ford, a hundred years ago minimum wage, overtime pay, worker safety, paid or unpaid vacation, the 40-hour week and healthcare for even on the job injury were considered to be evil socialism and pure anarchy.
It is your federal government that through regulation of industry and public schools that created the huge middle class of the 20th and 21st century. Without government intervention, there never could have been Americans whose spending provides seventy percent of today’s economy.
If you want to see what America would be like without the regulation of industry, look south of the border to countries, with huge natural resources, that have never created our engine of prosperity; an educated, politically and financially powerful middle class.
I have absolutely no patience with the people that pick at every little failure of government, but fail to acknowledge the magnificent successes of our government. These people are in every political party, religion, race, gender and age group. They are the perpetual objectors to anything new, that does not put money in their pockets.
When I was young, there were words that were used to teach children proper behavior and attitude. They were respect, civility, manners, honesty, charity, logic, loyalty, and compassion for people less fortunate than ourselves. I see too little of these character traits in Americans today. I only hope we will realize that it is not Muslim terrorists, communists, illegal immigrants, or crooked politicians that could destroy this country. It is the lack of personal honor and loyalty that threatens America. We truly are “the captains of our souls, the masters of our own destiny.”
Checking the facts
In a previously published letter, I wrote that “The U.S. has one of the highest infant mortality rates of any country in the industrialized world.”
Jamie Johnston responded with “Larry obviously did not research the facts.” The CIA World Factbook has us at number 51, right behind the Faroe Islands. Fact #1 is researched.
The gist of my letter was that we have too many politicians proposing too many useless laws and wasting our tax dollars on litigation. I used Phil King’s “Fetal heartbeat” bill (HB000591) that he filed for consideration by the Texas legislature in 2015 as an example of such.
[The writer]’s response contains no information related to HB000591. Fact #2 is researched.
[The writer] states “I applaud Phil King on this bill.” One has to wonder how approval can be granted when one fails to demonstrate minimal knowledge of the bill even though its web address was plainly given in the Democrat article.
One thing that is really obvious is that liberals and conservatives need to communicate better. The use of hyperbolic language such as the “mass murdering of innocent children” is not conducive to communications. Murder is illegal in all fifty states. If the murdering of children is a reality, then it should be reported to law enforcement personnel.
Suppose we are preparing to bake a cake and I tell you to find and beat 3 chickens. In the context of hyperbolic language, I would be giving you a valid instruction but I would not be communicating effectively.
As for “Abortion is about killing, not dollars,” reducing the number of spontaneous abortions in this country by 20% would reduce the total abortion count as much as eliminating all medically-induced abortions. But to accomplish this reduction, our politicians would have to confront big tobacco, big pharma, and big alcohol, which together contribute billions of tax dollars and political contributions. Protecting pregnant women from tobacco smoke has been a battle led mostly by our medical people, not our politicians. The actions of our politicians speak much louder than their words.
My previous conclusion still stands. Spending money on lawyers is not the highest and best use of our tax dollars.
