No place for the IRS

Dear Editor,

There is no place in a society of free people for a government agency like the IRS. For 80 years it has been used by administrations of both parties to punish their enemies. All citizens are subject to the IRS.  Congress has made is so, if we are charged by the IRS of wrongdoing, we MUST PROVE OURSELVES INNOCENT or pay the penalty. This is just plain wrong.

Today Dave Camp, chairman of the House Ways and Means committee, in a press release mentioned “first steps that have been taken to correct management flaws at the agency.” Really? Management flaws! Those guilty of behaviors described recently in the media should go to prison. The IRS should be dismantled. Congress should be ashamed.

Finally, in the name of “comprehensive tax reform” the FairTax legislation should be given a fair and public hearing by the Ways and Means committee. This legislation has been in the possession of this committee for over 12 years; it has not been brought to the committee table for consideration. If the FairTax were the law of the land this could never have happened. Contact your congressmen with the message: “Kill the IRS and pass the FairTax.”

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Good company, better service

We would like to thank Devin’s Handyman Service, Gary Boase, David Schramm and James Reed for the wonderful job they did repainting our front fence, front porch, back porch, patio and deck. Everything looks new and makes such a difference in our home.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Don't judge a book...

Dear Editor: Thursday night, July 17, I was present for a surprisingly interesting experience when state representative candidate Matthew Britt addressed a small group of supporters, followed by a question and answer session.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Response to 'Blame game'

Dear Editor: It’s not drug cartels telling Central Americans their children won’t be turned away at the border, it is the actions of this administration with its refusal to secure the border and its unilateral rewriting of immigration law. As has been shown, this president and his administration have for some time lied about the security of the border and immigration enforcement.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Sick and tired

Do you remember hearing Hillary Clinton screaming, “I am sick and tired of people who say if you debate or disagree with this administration somehow you are not patriotic. We should stand up and say, we are Americans and we have a right to disagree with any administration.” Nancy Pelosi said that the swamp needed to be drained and I agree, but I see she and Senator Reid are still splashing around in the slime.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Our officials care

I take serious exception to Mr. Jay Cloward’s letter, “Big city, no care” (7/8/14) in which he states that it almost looks like the city wants to become a for-profit company and Weatherford has “become a city too big to care.”

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: What’s so good about President Obama?

I’m proud to live in an America where our great president has passed a health care bill, after five presidents (Republican and Democratic) over the last 50 years tried and failed. I want my America to be a place where not only the rich can receive affordable health care by all citizens alike. Here’s to you, President Obama. It saddens me to hear disrespectful and pernicious comments about the man who holds the highest office of our great country. I hope that good people all across Parker County will join me in prayer for our elected leadership.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Big city, no care

The City of Weatherford officials have deemed it necessary to increase costs of utilities and taxes so more pet projects can be paid for. This comes from a city that collects money each month for storm runoff during an extended drought.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Supreme Court decision

Regardless of what the US Supreme Court proclaims,  corporations are not persons. They have special laws by which they must abide and laws that benefit only them.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Immigration

Why are tens of thousands of children suddenly entering the country from Central America? If it is due to the president and Democrats in Congress’s attempt to give immigration status to the children who were brought into this country illegally by their parents years ago, why isn’t there a flood of Mexican children crossing our southern border? Why just kids from three Central American countries?
