Hope is not a plan

Dear Editor,

I have noticed that the city is pumping water into Lake Weatherford on a regular basis. It makes me wonder if anyone has done the math comparison on digging a deeper lake, maybe putting in a new one somewhere, or at the very least dredging out the one we have. The north end of Lake Weatherford when full is at best only a couple of feet deep for many acres. That seems like such a waste of area. This area of the lake is now dry, and could be barricaded off and dug out. Also the level of the lake when full seems lower than it was in the past, maybe that is just me remembering it wrong, but it does seem like the level could be raised by about a foot without much cost at all. If and when it ever does fill up again we would have more water and wouldn’t be buying it from other water supplies, or at least as much of it. More people are moving into this community daily and we need a sustainable plan to supply them with the water they will be using, not just hanging our hopes on the rain that never seems to come.

Jon Castleberry,

Weatherford

  • Letters to the Editor: Showing respect

Dear Editor, My sister Robbie Benton’s funeral was Friday afternoon at White’s Funeral Home. The gravesite was outside of Mineral Wells. The respect shown by the good folks of Parker County and the surrounding area was overwhelming. I would say at least 90 percent of drivers pulled over in respect of the loss of life.

    Dear Editor,

I have been intrigued about few human rights issues in foreign countries, but look at what exists in the United States.

  • Letters to the Editor: Protecting Medicare Advantage

As one of over 14 million Americans who rely on a Medicare Advantage policy for my medical needs, I know it is crucial for Washington to protect the Advantage program’s budget. The Affordable Care Act already slashed $200 billion from the program. It would be a mistake to dismantle a program that produces better healthcare results than regular Medicare, while often costing seniors much less in the process.

  • Letters To The Editor: Kelly response

In a recent column, William Kelly stated his opposition to abortion and asked the question, “What do you think?” Well, I think we should all publically express our gratitude to CVS for their announced plan to stop selling tobacco products.

  • Letters To The Editor: Entitlement mentality

Traffic law violations seem to be changing. During the 25 years I spent driving in Parker and Tarrant counties, it was usually the young men and women in small sporty cars that ran the red lights, stop and yield signs and regularly grossly exceeded the posted speed limits.

  • Letters to the Editor: Stop the bailout

Dear Editor, The administration and congress knew that ObamaCare would fail but have had a plan all along to bail out the private insurance companies that supported the law with taxpayer money. Of course, this plan was kept hidden from American citizens that are already burdened by taxes. Congress should do everything it can to stop this disastrous bill.
