Snowden is a patriot

Dear Editor:

I look forward to Larry Jones’ column in the Weatherford Democrat each week and almost always agree with him. He is a distinguished veteran and a sterling individual. However, I do not agree with his assessment of Edward Snowden. I feel that Mr. Snowden is a patriot of the first order.

Federal government agencies are clearly trampling all over the Constitution by spying on American citizens who are accused of no crime(s). The Fourth Amendment in particular is being violated.

I paraphrase Thomas Jefferson: “Any people who would sacrifice freedom for security deserve neither.”

For the Republic,

Charles Roberson

Weatherford

Many questions few answers

Dear Editor,

“Let me just tell you, with the amount of black on black crime in America, I get nervous and I’m a black man.” A quote from Juan Williams.

“Jesse Jackson once spoke of turning around nervously when he heard footsteps behind him, worrying about robbery, only to feel relief upon seeing a white person.” A quote from Jesse Jackson:

Are these people racist or just racial profiling. Do you think George Zimmerman chased Trayvon Martin down and tackled him? There are a lot of if’s involved in this tragedy. If George Zimmerman had stayed in his vehicle? If Trayvon had not been suspended from school? This tragedy would not have happened.

This nation will never get past racism, as long as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton can make a living stirring up unrest. Folks claim that the high rate of crime in the black communities, is because of poverty and lack of money for education. In my opinion you can spend all the money in the world on education, but until you have discipline in the homes and in the schools, things will not change. The amount of money that has been spent on poverty, every poor child should be a rocket scientist, and I include all races in that category. It never ceases to amaze me, that humans are supposed to be the intelligent species, and they can’t see what drugs do to them. If America is still a racist nation, how did we elect a white African. If George Zimmerman is a white Hispanic, why is it that President Obama is not a white African. Both had a white parent. If President Obama had been a conservative, he would be a felon for smoking weed and doing a little blow.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: I have been corrected

I was complaining about President Obama making promises that he has not kept, such as taxes will not go up one dime or health care will go down about $2,500 per year for a family of four. He said he would cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. He said he would have an immigration plan in place. What he really meant was that if Congress would allow it, we would have open borders.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Concern for your pocketbooks

Dear Editor: My message today is to Democrats out in Parker County and the middle class and moderate-income Republicans in towns and rural areas.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Now is the time for all good men...

When man’s greed, desire for riches, power and control of our nation become greater than their love of humanity and our country, by constantly fomenting discord and hate among the citizens, warmongering and constantly talking of wars against other nations - it is putting political ideology before the welfare of citizens and country. It is time for We the People to take a good look at these men involved - no matter their status in our nation, we call the United States of America and decide whether or not they deserve the privilege and sanctuary of our nation.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Good company, better service

We would like to thank Devin’s Handyman Service, Gary Boase, David Schramm and James Reed for the wonderful job they did repainting our front fence, front porch, back porch, patio and deck. Everything looks new and makes such a difference in our home.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Don't judge a book...

Dear Editor: Thursday night, July 17, I was present for a surprisingly interesting experience when state representative candidate Matthew Britt addressed a small group of supporters, followed by a question and answer session.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Response to 'Blame game'

Dear Editor: It’s not drug cartels telling Central Americans their children won’t be turned away at the border, it is the actions of this administration with its refusal to secure the border and its unilateral rewriting of immigration law. As has been shown, this president and his administration have for some time lied about the security of the border and immigration enforcement.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Sick and tired

Do you remember hearing Hillary Clinton screaming, “I am sick and tired of people who say if you debate or disagree with this administration somehow you are not patriotic. We should stand up and say, we are Americans and we have a right to disagree with any administration.” Nancy Pelosi said that the swamp needed to be drained and I agree, but I see she and Senator Reid are still splashing around in the slime.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Our officials care

I take serious exception to Mr. Jay Cloward’s letter, “Big city, no care” (7/8/14) in which he states that it almost looks like the city wants to become a for-profit company and Weatherford has “become a city too big to care.”

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: What’s so good about President Obama?

I’m proud to live in an America where our great president has passed a health care bill, after five presidents (Republican and Democratic) over the last 50 years tried and failed. I want my America to be a place where not only the rich can receive affordable health care by all citizens alike. Here’s to you, President Obama. It saddens me to hear disrespectful and pernicious comments about the man who holds the highest office of our great country. I hope that good people all across Parker County will join me in prayer for our elected leadership.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Big city, no care

The City of Weatherford officials have deemed it necessary to increase costs of utilities and taxes so more pet projects can be paid for. This comes from a city that collects money each month for storm runoff during an extended drought.
