LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Why do so many follow the Judas goats

WEATHERFORD —

Dear Editor:

Is it possible that volcanoes erupting 2,000-degree magma under the polar caps have any bearing on the melting of the ice. There are an enormous number of volcanoes in the world’s oceans. It appears to an old country boy that when you put that much heat on water it has a tendency to cause a rise in temperature to anything that comes in contact with it.

I have a question about global warming being the cause of severe tornados and hurricanes. Do you remember the tornado that killed 255 and injured over 1000 in St. Louis and east St. Louis on May 27, 1896? I thought not. Folks don’t pay much attention to history. Did it ever occur to you that there are more communities for tornadoes and hurricanes to come in to contact with? There is no doubt that we need to take care of this big ball that God has given us. It seems to me that there are too many folks relying on federal grants to do studies on various things.

We are told what to eat, because this, that or the other is detrimental to our well being. There seems to be a great difference of opinion. In the neighborhood that I was raised in, for breakfast we had eggs and bacon or ham, plenty of butter on our toast or biscuits, and it was all fried in hog lard. We used whole milk or homemade butter milk, and let me tell you, it was absolutely delicious. Our parents lived to be in their late 80s and early 90s. We tried the healthy vegan diet for about 30 years. My wife became ill and doctors had no clue what was causing her illness. My mother came to the rescue with a big pan of beef liver, onions and gravy. Do you remember the commercials that touted better living through chemistry? If we get more chemicals in our foods, will we live better and longer? I don’t think so. It seems to me that the vermin are becoming immune and humans are not.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Good company, better service

We would like to thank Devin’s Handyman Service, Gary Boase, David Schramm and James Reed for the wonderful job they did repainting our front fence, front porch, back porch, patio and deck. Everything looks new and makes such a difference in our home.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Don't judge a book...

Dear Editor: Thursday night, July 17, I was present for a surprisingly interesting experience when state representative candidate Matthew Britt addressed a small group of supporters, followed by a question and answer session.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Response to 'Blame game'

Dear Editor: It’s not drug cartels telling Central Americans their children won’t be turned away at the border, it is the actions of this administration with its refusal to secure the border and its unilateral rewriting of immigration law. As has been shown, this president and his administration have for some time lied about the security of the border and immigration enforcement.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Sick and tired

Do you remember hearing Hillary Clinton screaming, “I am sick and tired of people who say if you debate or disagree with this administration somehow you are not patriotic. We should stand up and say, we are Americans and we have a right to disagree with any administration.” Nancy Pelosi said that the swamp needed to be drained and I agree, but I see she and Senator Reid are still splashing around in the slime.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Our officials care

I take serious exception to Mr. Jay Cloward’s letter, “Big city, no care” (7/8/14) in which he states that it almost looks like the city wants to become a for-profit company and Weatherford has “become a city too big to care.”

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: What’s so good about President Obama?

I’m proud to live in an America where our great president has passed a health care bill, after five presidents (Republican and Democratic) over the last 50 years tried and failed. I want my America to be a place where not only the rich can receive affordable health care by all citizens alike. Here’s to you, President Obama. It saddens me to hear disrespectful and pernicious comments about the man who holds the highest office of our great country. I hope that good people all across Parker County will join me in prayer for our elected leadership.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Big city, no care

The City of Weatherford officials have deemed it necessary to increase costs of utilities and taxes so more pet projects can be paid for. This comes from a city that collects money each month for storm runoff during an extended drought.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Hobby Lobby ruling

“It’s a free country!” How many times have you heard that statement?

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Supreme Court decision

Regardless of what the US Supreme Court proclaims,  corporations are not persons. They have special laws by which they must abide and laws that benefit only them.

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Immigration

Why are tens of thousands of children suddenly entering the country from Central America? If it is due to the president and Democrats in Congress’s attempt to give immigration status to the children who were brought into this country illegally by their parents years ago, why isn’t there a flood of Mexican children crossing our southern border? Why just kids from three Central American countries?
