MILITARY NEWS: Shaw graduates from Army combat training

— Army Reserve Pvt. Kayla R. Shaw has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Shaw is the daughter of Mark and Shyla Shaw, of Paradise. She is a 2012 graduate of Springtown High School.

Hering completes Army National Guard infantry training

Army National Guard Pvt. Cyle Hering has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

Hering is the son of Wendie Ward and stepson of Bill Ward, both of Burleson. He is a 2010 graduate of Springtown High School.

Army Pvt. Miller graduates from combat training

Army Pvt. Kyle B. Miller has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Miller is the son of Charles Miller, of Magnolia, Texas, and Lynda Taskey, of Weatherford. He is the nephew of Angel Lozada of Tucson, Ariz.

He is a 2011 graduate of Magnolia West High School, Texas.
