Fire burns near Texas Tactical

Fire fighters contained a four-acre wildfire near the intersection of Zion Hill and Sweet Springs roads in the northwest quadrant of Parker County Tuesday.

Shortly after mid-day, part of Tommy Taylor’s training facility, Texas Tactical, caught fire, along with a portion of property to the east. A preliminary investigation suggests a cigarette butt thrown from a passing motor vehicle may have caused the blaze.

Taylor estimated one acre of his field burned, along with some trees, but said his training facility at 4104 Zion Hill Road was not damaged.

Firemen from Peaster, Poolville, Central and Cool/Garner volunteer fire departments, along with the Weatherford Fire Department and Parker County Fire Marshall’s Office, helped extinguish the blaze, which came within a few hundred feet of one residence.

Parker County Fire Marshall Shawn Scott said this fire season has been a tough one.

“You’ve got to give the volunteers a hand because they’ve managed to save every structure that’s been in danger this year,” he said. “When spring green-up happens, that’s when I’ll start to breathe a little easier.”
