Parker County Red Cross urges preparedness during Red Cross month

WEATHERFORD – Ninety-six percent of Americans agree that it’s important to prepare for a disaster, but only seven percent have taken the necessary steps to do so according to recent American Red Cross polling.

This March during Red Cross Month, the Red Cross in Parker County is encouraging residents to take three simple actions to get “Red Cross Ready” for disasters and other emergencies: 1) Get a kit, 2) Make a plan and 3) Be informed.

“Taking these basic preparedness actions can better prepare you for a variety of disasters from a power outage to a tornado,” said Red Cross Parker County Branch Manager Teresa Filkins. “During Red Cross Month as we honor the volunteers, donors and supporters who help make Parker County a safer place to live, work and play. We invite everyone will join us in our mission by getting better prepared.”

The Parker County Red Cross will be holding Adult, Child and Infant CPR and First Aid training on Saturday, March 22, at their chapter office at 1740 Bethel Road, Weatherford. The course, normally offered at $55, will be discounted to $40 for a one day only as Red Cross Month special.

The “Heroes for the American Red Cross” campaign will also be happening throughout the month of March. “Heroes” are individuals or teams of individuals who have agreed to raise $1,000 for the Parker County Red Cross through individual fundraisers of their choice.

According to Filkins, "Heroes often come up with fun and unique fundraisers, so be on the lookout for them and please support the Heroes when you see them in the community."
