Art exhibit open at Alkek Center
WEATHERFORD — A reception for the Weatherford College Student Art Exhibition will be held in Texas Hall of the Marjorie Black Alkek Fine Arts Center on the college’s main campus from 6-7 p.m. Monday, April 21, at 225 College Park.
The public is invited to attend and meet the artists.
Works will feature a variety of media, including ebony, charcoal, scratchboard, acrylic, oil, watercolor, colored pencil, copper, clay and mixed media.
Art work will be offered for exhibition and for sale.
Weatherford College art students come from a wide variety of backgrounds, ages, cultures and hometowns.
One student exhibiting her work comes to the college from Russia, and several non-traditional students will be represented, as well.
Works will include drawing, painting, ceramics and sculpture.
The exhibition runs April 9 through April 25, but the reception on the 21st will highlight the event with students having the opportunity to visit, one-on-one, with the public.
Myrlan Coleman, Weatherford College art department chair, said, “This is an exceptional group of students who seem to work hard and continue to produce excellent work.”
Immediately following the reception, a solo piano recital performed by faculty member Dr. Hye-Young Song will be held in the theatre.
Song, winner of The Janis K. Hodges piano competition, is a highly acclaimed pianist.
She holds a doctor of musical arts from the University of Texas at Austin.
Song will be performing several selections.
Both events are free and the public is invited to attend.
