WHS boys are ahead of their class

With Weatherford High School’s graduation drawing near, two young men are officially graduating at the head of their class.

Brian Graves is the 2008 valedictorian. Graves plans on leaving for Oklahoma University soon to begin orientation and band camp, and will begin studying pre-dentistry in the fall. The senior, who is attending OU on a partial scholarship, enjoys physics because he said it’s “actually fun to learn stuff” in the class.

“Do your best, but don’t take it too seriously,” Graves advised upcoming seniors. He credits his parents and teachers for helping him succeed.

Chris Vaszauskas, class salutatorian, is heading to Baylor University in the fall where he will major in software engineering. Vaszauskas will be a second-generation Baylor Bear; his parents met at the university. He received a Presidential Scholarship to the school for scoring 1,400 on his SAT.

Vaszauskas began his interest in software engineering in Mike Ladley’s computer science class.

“I’d really like to thank Mr. Ladley,” he said. “He’s by far the most influential person I’ve ever met.”

Both seniors are excited about the transition from high school to college.

“High school’s been good, but I’m ready to move on,” Graves said.

Vaszauskas said he has his own reasons to look forward to graduating.

“Senioritis is real,” he said. “It actually exists.”
