Woman to serve full sentence after violating probation

After being arrested for harassing a public servant June 1, 2007, Melaina Gay Marie Maddux was sentenced to five years probation, 160 hours of community service, fined $1,000 and was made to pay court costs and other fees totaling $261.

Upon breaking that probation, Maddux’ sentence has been modified, forcing her to serve an additional 90 days in the county jail.

Parker County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Terry was originally dispatched to Maddux’s home in Poolville last year in regards to a domestic dispute.

In Terry’s report, he stated Maddux was attempting to assault another person.

Terry placed Maddux in the back of his patrol car while he spoke with other parties involved. He said in his report, he could smell a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and she appeared “quite intoxicated.”

Terry suggested to family members they leave Maddux alone for the night until she could sober up.

According to sheriff’s reports, Terry was attempting to break up an assault when Maddux spit in his face.

The report went on to state Maddux had to be physically restrained and resisted arrest by attempting to kick Terry even after she was placed in handcuffs.

Further reports indicate Maddux continued her irate behavior at the Parker County Justice Center with other jailers and deputies, spitting on another female officer, and forcing them to place her in a de-tox room, while she continued to yell profanities at deputies and jail staff.

This week, Maddux was taken to jail with a no bond placed on her after she was brought in by her probation office.

According to Parker County Assistant District Attorney Jeff Swain, Maddux willingly agreed to stay in jail while she attended a day treatment program for substance abuse after she was reported by her probation officer.

Maddux’s prior charges date back to 2004 with several charges of public intoxication.
