Doublewide burns near Springtown

Authorities believe faulty wiring likely ignited a fire that consumed at least two rooms inside a Springtown area home Saturday.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m., fire fighters from Springtown, La Junta, Reno and Silver Creek responded to a burning doublewide mobile home along Highland Circle southeast of Springtown.

The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire; the homeowner was reportedly visiting family.

Parker County Fire Marshal Shawn Scott said firefighters were able to contain the blaze to within a couple of rooms.

“At this point, it looks like there was probably faulty wiring in the house,” Scott said. “There was nothing suspicious about the fire, as far as potential arson or anything.”

All-in-all, Scott said, the Memorial Day weekend was comparatively quiet.

“I was really surprised, considering it was a holiday weekend.”
