Few witnesses report grim crash

Weatherford Police are encouraging anyone who witnessed a disturbing collision which left a father, 49, and his 8-year-old son in critical condition Tuesday to come forward.

Authorities say a number of motorists probably saw what happened. Prosecutors often rely on witness testimony.

“That intersection is crazy busy and I know there had to be more witnesses than what we had,” Weatherford Police Det. Wendy Field said.

The collision took place in the middle of one of Weatherford’s busiest intersections shortly before 6 p.m., when people are driving home from work.

The father and son were traveling on South Bowie Drive in a silver, two-door Honda Accord when they were hit by a man police believe was driving while intoxicated.

Both the child and his father were listed in critical condition Thursday, though the boy is now reportedly responsive.

After receiving treatment for non-life threatening injuries at an area hospital, the man police say caused the accident, Joshua Alvey, 28, was charged with two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle/serious bodily injury, and one count of evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.

Alvey reportedly told police he departed his place of employment and consumed alcohol alone in a parking lot near the scene of the accident.

A short time later, citizens reported witnessing a blue Hyundai Santa Fe smash into at least two unoccupied vehicles.

Authorities chased the blue Hyundai, driven by Alvey, east into Hudson Oaks until he turned around and traveled back through Weatherford, eventually colliding with the Honda Accord at the intersection of South Bowie Drive, Ranger Highway, Mineral Wells Highway and North Bowie Drive.

Police believe Alvey is a former resident of Weatherford, though he currently resides in Bridgeport.

He remains in the Parker County Jail with bond set at $37,500.
