Man jailed for Brock burglaries

A string of burglaries at a Brock strip mall is believed to have been solved by county investigators.

Cody Eldon Eubanks, 22, of Weatherford, remains in custody and is believed to be responsible for the crimes, including the recent burglary of Dollar General on Fort Worth Highway.

Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said Eubanks’ fingerprints were found at the scene.

The Brock burglaries happened last week.

Sheriff’s Crimes Against Property investigators and members of the Weatherford Parker County Fugitive Strike Team arrested Eubanks two days after the crimes at a Decatur motel room in Wise County. He was transported to the Parker County Justice Center where his bond was set at $48,000.

Fowler said Eubanks was charged with four counts of burglary of a building in the Brock investigations, a separate count of burglary in Dollar General case and for evading arrest in Tarrant County.

Sheriff’s Lt. Mark Arnett said Eubanks was already wanted on a burglary charge from the Weatherford Police case and became a suspect in the Brock break-ins after he was caught on video surveillance at the business complex in the 1400 block FM 1189.

The tape captured a co-defendant and a vehicle parked near the strip mall, which was burglarized the morning of May 21.

Arnett stated in a press release that Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the businesses around 6 a.m. the morning after business owners discovered their offices had been breached through the back door(s) of the complex.

Various property was stolen from Texas Wyoming Drilling Company, Martinez Cleaners, Rutledge Real Estate and Pizza Villa. Items reported stolen included three lap top computers and about $330 in cash.

Investigators reviewed the surveillance tape, traced the license plate of the vehicle and determined the vehicle was apparently owned by a family member of Eubanks’ in Alvord.

The release stated Eubanks reportedly borrowed the car from his sister. Investigators were also able to identify the co-defendant from the surveillance footage, which led them to the man’s home in Decatur last Friday.

The man, whose name is being withheld, cooperated with fugitive investigators which led them to the motel room where Eubanks was arrested and found him in possession of one of the lap top computers taken in the crime.

Investigators also recovered another lap top in the investigation.

The co-defendant is expected to surrender himself to authorities later this week.

Special Crimes Unit investigators handled the latest Dollar General crime. The store has been burglarized twice this year.

Weatherford Police Detective Wendy Field said Eubanks has not been charged in the first burglary.

“At this time, there’s not enough evidence to link a suspect to the crime,” Field said.

Fowler said the cases against Eubanks would be presented before the grand jury this summer.
