SuperSave moving to new location

Weatherford grocer SuperSave is planning to occupy the old Kroger location in September, store owner Bill Kiker confirmed Wednesday.

Kiker anticipates adjusting SuperSave’s color scheme, along with implementing subtle format changes and increasing the size of his staff.

“We’re looking at possibly adding a couple of departments, but we haven’t completed our merchandising plan yet,” he said.

After 32 years in Weatherford, Kroger management closed its store in the College Park Shopping Center in April, when newly implemented beer and wine sales fell short of revenue expectations.

Kiker hopes other stores in the shopping center will bring more customers to the new SuperSave, and he believes the location will be an improvement over the traffic situation at the current location, 1314 South Main Street.

Kiker expects to hold a grand opening at the new location in September, which he said would coincide with the anniversary of SuperSave’s 17 years in Weatherford.

Kiker said he sold his current location to a developer who is reportedly plans on building a strip-style shopping center.

Before SuperSave, the building at 1314 South Main was occupied by K-Mart and was previously operated as a bowling alley.
