Caring cop gets the news out

When Teresa Carr saw smoke billowing out of her dashboard, she was worried about her car, her health and her job as a paper carrier. Much to her delight, a caring Willow Park police officer went beyond the call of duty to help with all three of those concerns.

Carr was nearly done with her eastern Parker County paper route when the trouble started.

“The dash started smoking and I thought the car was on fire, so I called 9-1-1,” she said. “Officer Trini Feggett and another officer came out to see if I was OK. Turns out, the heater core went out. But they advised me not to drive the car, so I was just kind of stuck there.”

At least, she would have been stuck. However, Feggett took it upon himself to make sure Carr not only made it safely home, but was able to fulfill the obligations of her job.

“We just loaded up in his car and took off,” Carr said. “We got up to White Settlement, where I have three drops. I wasn’t even really thinking because as we pulled up to the address, I handed him the paper. He threw it! He said it was fun and we were both laughing.”

But Feggett’s work wasn’t done there. After completing Carr’s paper route, the officer gained permission to drive her from Willow Park back to Weatherford to her daughter’s business.

“He kept saying he wanted to make sure he dropped me off with a person, and that I wasn’t going to be stranded,” she said. “He even came in and met my daughter and son-in-law.”

Officer Feggett was not available for comment Friday. While time and a good throwing arm were all it took for Feggett to assist the stranded citizen, Carr said she believes the officer’s attitude is the most remarkable part of the story.

“He went so far over and above,” she said. “He could have just taken me to the police station, and I’d have waited there for someone to pick me up. But he said he wanted to do whatever God wanted him to do that day. He didn’t make me feel like any less of a person because I was just throwing papers and he’s an officer. I’d never met someone so willing to go out of his way for me and my safety.”
