Once again, elected leaders in Washington, D.C., are preparing to reform the American healthcare system. In the meantime, Cancer Care Services will continue bridging the gap for underserved cancer patients in Parker County.

The group’s 10th annual Soiree, a fundraiser, is scheduled to take place Saturday at the Doss Heritage and Culture Center beginning at 6 p.m.

Singer Dan Roberts is billed to perform during the event, welcomed by Katelyn and Cody Boone, a sibling guitar and fiddle act.

Silent and live auctions are planned featuring a large, flat-screen television, hand-made cedar chest and quilt, spa and vacation packages and other items donated by local businesses.

Fish Creek, a restaurant in Willow Park, is catering the event, according to Donna Tillman, this year’s chairperson.

“The main point is, it’s a local fundraiser,” Tillman said. “The funds stay local.”

Last year, Cancer Care Services provided more than $37,000 in direct financial assistance to 148 cancer patients in Parker County, according to a release distributed by the group.

Cancer Care Services operates a psychosocial support facility in Fort Worth, with services offered in Parker, Hood and Johnson counties.

In Parker County, the group provides cancer victims with a personal advocate, financial assistance for prescription medications, nutritional supplements, insurance premiums, emergency funds, medical equipment and transportation to treatment facilities.

Other services include emotional, spiritual and social services like counseling, support groups and family activities.
