Seven horses dead

At least six horses were found dead and one was euthanized after Parker County Animal Control Officers responded to unidentified property along FM 730 between Weatherford and Azle Wednesday.

The dead horses, thought to be brood mares, were buried, and an unknown number of other horses surviving without water or feed were examined by a veterinarian, according to Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler.

“What it looks like right now is, the guy who was supposed to be going out there every day, or every other day, and tending to these animals didn’t do it,” Fowler said.

Fowler emphasized the ongoing investigation remains in a preliminary stage. Additional details are expected later today.
