A couple was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth Sunday after a 2005 Cadillac Escalade hit their motorcycle in Brock.

Authorities said the couple, identified as Cary Waller, 49; and his wife, Shelly, of Fort Worth, were in critical but stable condition Monday evening.

Department of Public Safety Trooper Jacob Smith said the couple was traveling east on the north Interstate 20 service road, when the female driver of the SUV, Rita Lang, of Weatherford, was attempting a left turn onto FM 1189 from the service road and hit the motorcycle.

Officials said Waller suffered foot injuries and was unconscious for about five minutes before emergency personnel arrived. His wife’s injuries were unknown.

Smith said Lang was headed eastbound on service road when she “turned into him.”

She was issued a citation for making an unsafe turn, while Waller was issued a citation for operating a motorcycle without a proper license.

PHi air ambulance transported Shelly Waller and a second helicopter from AirEvac was called to the scene to transport Cary Waller.

Lang reported no injuries from the crash, and told state troopers she did not see the couple.

Smith reported the Escalade “pushed” the bike from a side impact, as the couple was ejected from it about six feet from the site of impact. Damage to the motorcycle was described as “severe and totaled.”

The Wallers were said to be wearing helmets at the time of the crash. Smith also said Lang was wearing her seatbelt and her airbags did deploy.
