Storms drop rain, temps

WEATHERFORD - Weatherford residents woke to the sound of thunder this morning as rogue thunderstorms rolled through the area dropping as much as three-quarters of an inch of rain.

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service said the welcome storms were courtesy of Hurricane Dolly.

A spokesman for the NWS said storms in North Texas usually develop from west to east. However, this morning's thunderstorms built east of the Metroplex and swept westerly.

The storms kicked off around midnight over Fannin, Hunt and Collinbs Counties and had moved into Parker County by around 5:30 a.m.

The rain cooled temperatures into the mid 70s early today, but shouldn't hinder the mercury's summertime climb back to triple digits by the afternoon.

Today's forecast calls for a high near 100 degrees with isolated thunderstorms possible.
