WC honors donor with famed award
WEATHERFORD — At the annual appreciation dinner recognizing scholarship donors and student recipients, the Weatherford College Foundation presented one of the college’s most prestigious awards, the Carlos Hartnett Award, to Eddie Kidd of Hudson Oaks.
The award, established in 1997, and named for Weatherford College’s first development officer, is given to a citizen who encourages others by word and by example, to give from their abundance for the benefit of Weatherford College.
Kidd was honored for establishing the Eddie Kidd Scholarship, which was funded in April.
“Mr. Kidd had the foresight to create the framework for his scholarship back in the mid-1980s,” said Dr. Mike White, Weatherford College Foundation president. “Now that it has come to fruition, the Eddie Kidd Scholarship Fund is one of our largest endowments, and it will fund scholarships for local students for many years to come.”
Previous winners of the Carlos Hartnett Award are Mark Littleton, 1997; I.B. Hand, 1998; Jack Borden, 1999; Roy Joe Grogan, 2000; Jerry Durant, 2001; Dorothy Doss, 2002; Dr. Jim Boyd, 2003-04; Joe Tison, 2005-06, and Jean Bryan, 2007.
As the Carlos Hartnett Award recipient, Kidd received a plaque, and his name will be engraved on a granite plaque at the entrance of the Alkek Fine Arts Center.
