A jury decided a long-standing water trial against Willow Park in favor of a coalition between Hudson Oaks, Annetta, Annetta South, Annetta North and Aledo Thursday.
The coalition, along with Parker County Utility District No. 1, filed charges against Willow Park when the city attempted to take control of Deer Creek Water Works and various Certificates of Convenience of Necessity, which were outside of Willow Park boundaries.
After attempts to settle out of court, the trial was brought before Judge Don Crestman in the 43rd District Court.
Hudson Oaks Mayor Pat Deen said the jury deliberated for 10 hours before reaching a verdict.
The mayors of the coalition cities were present throughout the process.
“Willow Park is a valued neighbor of ours, and we enjoy working with them on area issues, but it was a situation where we respectfully disagreed with the actions taken,” Deen said. “A city should not own a water system in another city. You should have a say and an appeals process where you get your water.”
Another lawsuit, filed by the residents of Deer Creek, is ongoing.
