Weatherford College Jazz Band to host jazz greats in free Thursday concert

Weatherford Democrat

— Thanks to the generosity of contractors/builders Steele-Freeman Inc., the Weatherford College Jazz Band will host a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday featuring guest artists Mack Goldsbury with Victor Cager and the Texas Connection.

The concert will take place in the Marjorie Black Alkek Fine Arts Center Theatre on the WC campus. The doors open at 7 p.m.

Saxophonist Goldsbury, a former band mate of WC’s own Duane Durrett, hails from El Paso but makes frequent forays to Europe to perform and conduct jazz seminars as a featured artist. Victor Cager, a retired Navy seaman, has established himself as a singer of note in the DFW Metroplex since returning to his hometown.

The evening will get under way with several opening numbers by the WC Jazz Band with the guest artists each joining for special performances. Goldsbury and Cager will then be joined by the other members of The Texas Connection with pianist Kelly Durbin, double bassist Lou Harlos, and Durrett on drums comprising the rhythm section.
