Weatherford College has rescheduled its production of “Return to the Forbidden Planet” to Dec. 6-8 at the Alkek Fine Arts Center. Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday.
Originally scheduled Nov. 21-24, the production only made one night before being postponed due to the inclement weather that hit North Texas last weekend.
Written by Bob Carlton and loosely based on Shakespeare’s “The Tempest,” the setting is reminiscent of the B sci-fi movies of the 1950s and 60s, combined with the rock ‘n roll music of the same era.
“We blast off on a routine space flight and crash into the planet D’Illyria, and somehow, with perfect logic, the songs are worked into the plot,” said Nancy McVean. "Shakespeare and rock and roll? Absolutely!”
The cast includes Gatlin Douglas as Captain Tempest; Stephen Sullivan as Prospero; Kylar Dobbs as Ariel; Delace McMahan as Miranda; Seth O’Bannon as Cookie; Salone Sasser as Gloria; Cole Lucas as Bosun and Joshua Davis as the navigational officer. Rob Laney is the music director. Technical director is Joseph Nicikowski and costume designer is Diane Simons.
Doors open one-half hour prior to each performance. For more information, contact McVean at 817-598-6307 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
