WEATHERFORD — Halloween isn’t just for kids anymore.

Much like families around the country, Weatherford residents took part in Halloween festivities Wednesday night. Showing a youthful enthusiasm, many of the adults took as much care in deciding their costumes and makeup as their children did.

Candy Ellison of Weatherford said she and her sister spent about two hours working on her spider face makeup, which looked as good as any you would find professionally.

“It looks like there is a white coat of paint under my makeup, but there’s not. I’m just that pale,” Ellison joked while at First Baptist Church’s Fall Festival.  “She (daughter Sydney, who came as the Black Widow) wouldn’t come if I didn’t dress up as well, so here I am.”

Several churches had Fall Festivals or Trunk or Treat events during the evening where children could safely play games, get their faces decorated for Halloween and, of course, get their fill of candy. Weatherford College’s  police department hosted their Fourth Annual Safe Halloween. The police department, according to the college website, was expecting around 4,000 trick or treaters and was close to getting that early on as crowds flooded the parking lot across from the ballpark.

One family really got into the spirit of the occasion, dressing as Fred, Wilma and Pebbles Flintstone. Still others preferred to let the little ones have their “fun in the sun,” as Roberto Salazar, who said he came as “Roberto Salazar,” said.

“I had my fun. Now it’s their turn,” Salazar said of his son, Cristopher and daughter, Isabella as they roamed the Couts Hall parking lot enjoying themselves.

Plains Capital Bank was the place to be during the day, however, as several employees dressed up for the occasion. Along with 70s icons Sonny and Cher, there were Toy Story characters, beauty pageant contestants, Tina Turner and others along with goodies such as cookies and soda for customers to sample.
