Weatherford attorney Tom Vick elected chair of Texas Bar Foundation

G. Thomas Vick Jr. with Vick Carney & Smith LLP has been elected chair of the Texas Bar Foundation Board of Trustees.

Vick will take office June 21. He has successfully combined a dedication to the law with charitable leadership during his career, leading to this statewide honor.

Vick has served as chair of the State Bar of Texas Family Law Section, as a commissioner on the Texas Access to Justice Commission, as a director on the State Bar of Texas Board and as president of the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists and the Texas Chapter of American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

In the Weatherford community, Vick served as mayor and as a trustee for the Weatherford Independent School District. He is a graduate of Austin College (1977) and South Texas College of Law (1981). Vick joined his father, Gabe T. Vick, in May 1981, where he has practiced law on the northwest corner of the square in Weatherford since.

The Texas Bar Foundation is the largest charitably-funded bar foundation in the country with an endowment of more than $22 million. Each year, the top one-third of 1 percent of state bar members are invited to become Fellows.

Once nominees are selected, they must be elected by the Texas Bar Foundation Board of Trustees. Membership has grown from an initial 254 charter Fellows in 1965 to more than 7,500 Fellows throughout Texas today.

Founded by lawyers determined to assist the public and improve the legal profession, the Texas Bar Foundation has maintained its mission of using the financial contributions of its membership to build a strong justice system for all Texans. To date, the Texas Bar Foundation has distributed more than $13 million throughout Texas to assist nonprofit organizations with a wide range of justice-related programs and services.
