Simple Gifts to give performance at 33rd annual Shaw-Kemp open house

Western heritage, Texas swing, gospel and original music are all performed by the Sawyer family from Weatherford. Simple Gifts is a unique combination of family, fiddles, fun and song.

They are scheduled to perform during the 33rd annual Shaw-Kemp Open House on Saturday, April 13, taking place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. It is located on State Highway 51 south of Weatherford.

David Sawyer leads his band with his outstanding fingerpicking guitar and humble spirit. Twice a finalist in the Kerrville New Folk Competition, this gifted songwriter has toured Russia, Japan and the U.S. and was awarded “Standout New Cast Member – Male” as member of “The Promise.”

Kathy is warm and energetic and often performs lead vocals. She toured North America and Europe with “Up With People” along with winning “Standout New Cast Member – Female” for her work in “The Promise.”

Leah, age 11, is a vivacious, talented musician with vocal abilities that garnered her “The Marilyn Tuttle Best of the Best Harmony Award” by the Western Music Association. Her prowess on the fiddle secured first place at the Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering Youth Fiddle Contest.

At age 9, David has developed a fiddle style that has placed him well in contests across Texas and a singing voice that adds a special dimension to the family sound.
