Weatherford Democrat

The Parker County Hospital District and Holland Lake Nursing Center will be providing free flu shots with a canned food donation 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 7 a.m.-6 p.m.

The shot or FluMist are available to anyone 6 months and older.

The PCHD Outreach Program started administering the flu vaccine the first of September. In the last seven weeks they have given more than 8,500 shots/mist in all the county schools and many businesses.

“Working this season with the motto of ‘Protect yourself, Protect your family and Protect your community,’ the outreach program wants to make sure that anyone who wants the flu shot can get it,” Director Lisa Franklin stated.

Knowing this event could attract a lot of residents the collaboration with Holland Lake Nursing Center was a perfect fit.

“The overall health of the community is so important that we knew we had to be a part of this day long event,” said Holland Lake Administrator Donna Tillman.

The outreach program will be providing the flu vaccine and nurses and Holland Lake will be hosting the drive-thru event at its facility. With a canned food donation, which will go to local foods banks, people will receive their flu shot without having to leave their car. Breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.; a hot dog lunch will be served 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and popcorn from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“Making the event easy and convenient is the goal,” said Franklin. “Protecting the community and helping the local food banks is a win, win for everyone.”

In the past two years the PCHD Outreach Program has provided nearly 30,000 flu immunizations. Those who have already been vaccinated may still drop off canned goods and enjoy the food and fun.
