Man dies in pursuit

Motorcyclist had history of fleeing

WEATHERFORD — A motorcyclist with a history of fleeing Parker County law enforcement was involved in a high speed pursuit Sunday near Springtown that ended in his death.

Gregorio Encinas Jr., 31, of Dallas, was pronounced dead at the scene of a one vehicle wreck on State Highway 199 near Land of Goshen Road after being ejected from the motorcycle he was riding, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Trooper Gary Rozzell.

A trooper in a marked unit reportedly began pursuing the bike and rider on FM 51, north of Weatherford, around 10:40 p.m., according to Rozzell.

Most of the pursuit was in excess of 100 mph, Sgt. Doug Hart said.

Encinas wrecked about 18 minutes later west of Springtown when his 2005 Suzuki motorcycle approached a curve and Encinas lost control, leaving the roadway, Rozzell said.

He was thrown from the bike and struck a mailbox and pole, according to Rozzell. He was reportedly wearing a helmet.

LifeCare pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office ruled his death an accident due to blunt trauma to the chest and abdomen.

Hart said they found Encinas had a warrant for probation revocation for burglary when they ran his driver’s license number.

Encinas was convicted in 2009 of fleeing Weatherford police with a vehicle and was sentenced to 20 months in state jail, according to court records.
