Pool party sign ups begin April 1

By BRIAN SMITH

It’s a popular summertime thing to do in Weatherford ... and it cranks up April 1.

Parks and Recreation officials announced registration for Cherry Park pool parties will begin that morning at 8 a.m., according to Athletics and Aquatics Supervisor Tyler Sievert. Sievert said the numbers of requests for pool parties, which run Thursday through Sunday evenings from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., are huge.

“The pool parties are in high demand and we will fill up,” Sievert said. “We usually have between four and five people in line before we open that day and our phone is ringing off the hook.”

The phone calls will be answered and the people contacted in the order they are received starting at 1 p.m., but Sievert said those that physically show up at the Parks and Recreation Office on Palo Pinto Street will have first choice on dates.

Pool parties begin May 30.

Some changes have been made to pool party policy. Sievert said times have been moved back 15 minutes to make the times easier to remember. A change in the payment policy has also been made.

Beginning this year, payment in full must be made at the time of the reservation.

Rates depend on the amount of partygoers expected but all come with trained lifeguards. No alcohol or glass containers are allowed but people can bring their own gas (no charcoal) grills.

Partygoers are asked to clean up after themselves as far as picking up what they brought and placing it in receptacles but the in-depth cleaning is handled by city staff, Sievert said.
