Grand jury indicts suspect in baseball bat beating

Aggravated robbery

The grand jury also indicted 27-year-old Sonya Ann Downs on charges of aggravated robbery and theft of property, more than $20,000, less than $100,000.

According to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office, Downs and another suspect were encountered by a 63-year-old man who went to check on a burglar alarm at his neighbor’s property in the 7000 block of Tucker Road.

The two suspects fled in stolen vehicles filled with stolen property from the residence and ran into the neighbor, who attempted to block their path, according to the sheriff’s office.

The male suspect managed to pass the neighbor, fleeing the scene in a stolen 2008 Mercedes, belonging to the property owners, officials said. The neighbor then reportedly used his vehicle to block the female suspect, who was driving a 2007 Ford Expedition reported stolen out of Fort Worth.

The neighbor reported Downs intentionally rammed his new 2013 GMC pickup truck with the stolen Expedition, causing several thousand dollars’ worth of damage. Deputies reportedly arrived to find Downs injured from the crash and the stolen Expedition resting in a ditch.

Downs was transported to a hospital for treatment and later released.

Both suspects were later arrested by the Parker County Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team at a hotel north of Fort Worth and the Mercedes, abandoned in an Azle church parking lot with the stolen property still inside, recovered.
