Police, sheriff's department reports

Following are reports of recent activities released by the Weatherford Police Department and Parker County Sheriff’s Department:

WEATHERFORD PD

Home burglary

Weatherford police investigated a reported home burglary that occurred between 11 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of East Fourth Street. The residents said they returned home to find the front door kicked in and several jewelry boxes containing costume jewelry and a laptop missing, at a combined loss of $650.

Criminal mischief

A call responding to an alarm around 4 a.m. Wednesday at a business in the 1700 block of Fort Worth Highway led to the discovery of a broken window at a business at an estimated loss of $500.

Intrusion attempt

On Monday about 5:10 a.m., Weatherford police were called to the 700 block of Red Oak Lane in regards to a reported prowler behind a residence. Arriving police said no prowler was found, however, officers did find where someone burglarized a storage shed at the rear of the residence and attempted to force entry into the back door of the house.

Two purses were recovered at the scene and returned to the owner. Officers noted damage to a window pane and a deadbolt lock,  damaged when the suspect attempted to jimmy open the door using a piece of metal.

Building burglary

Weatherford police Monday morning were dispatched to the 2200 block of Tin Top Road where the complainant reported someone cut the padlock from a storage unit and went inside. No items were reported missing.

Vehicle burglaries

• An individual said his 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe was broken into sometime last weekend while it was parked in a lot in the 1900 block of Martin Street. The vehicle’s steering column was damaged.

• Police early Monday afternoon were called to the 800 block of Eureka Street where a woman said between 8 a.m. and noon that day someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole a gate opener and a set of keys to another vehicle.

  • DPS encouraging online license services, Mega Centers during summer

    AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is encouraging residents to beat the summer rush at driver license offices across the state by renewing their license or identification card early or online. The summer months are typically one of the busiest times of year at driver license offices, and many eligible Texans can skip the trip to the office completely via online renewal of their license, identification card or change of address at Texas.gov.

  • WHS bands earn multiple UIL awards

    The Weatherford High School concert, sightreading, and symphonic bands recently earned Division I ratings at the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest at Burleson High School.

  • Springtown man gets 37-year sentence

    A Parker County jury Thursday convicted a Springtown man of continuous sexual abuse of a young child, giving him a 37-year prison sentence.

    Professional auctioneer Randall McDaniel conducted his fourth annual PCRTA auction of items donated by members on April 1. Several paddle wars transpired for popular items. Additionally, members participated in a silent auction, a first for the group. A total of $1,400 from the auction was contributed to the PCRTA’s operating fund. McDaniel is a 1986 graduate of Weatherford High School. The auction was sponsored by the Community Service Committee, chaired by Barbara Rothrock.

  • Grand jury indictments for April returned

    A Parker County grand jury on Thursday indicted a man accused of breaking into his neighbor’s home and threatening him with a BB gun before engaging in a brief standoff with deputies.
