Extension Service offers ‘Step Up, Scale Down’ program

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will be launching Step Up and Scale Down, a 12-week weight management program to help with efforts to lose weight.

There will be three difference classes offered:

• Class 1 – Mondays beginning Feb. 3 at 12:15 p.m. in Weatherford at the Parker County Extension Office, located at 604 N. Main St.

• Class 2 – Mondays beginning Feb. 3 at 5:15 p.m. in Weatherford at the Parker County Extension Office.

• Class 3 – Thursdays beginning Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the Springtown Senior Citizens Center located at 1070 N. Main St. in Springtown.

Step Up and Scale Down is a great program to do with a friend or family member. The program consists of weigh-in and 30-minute weekly lessons to help participants make steps toward a healthier weight.

The 12 lessons will include: “Scale Down by Setting Goals,” “Step Up to a Healthy Plate,” “Scale Down by Label Reading,” “Step Up to Breakfast and Menu Planning,” “Scale Down with Moves to Lose,” “Step Up Your Hydrations, Scale Down by Finding your Motivational Mojo,” “Step Up to Healthy Snacking,” “Scale Down with a Colorful Plate,” “Step Up to Successful Socializing,” “Scale Down by Knowing your Numbers” and “Step Up and Celebrate.”

The classes will also include a weekly weight check-in, a weekly challenge to help you stay the course, healthy recipes and incentives.

The program is based on USDA 2010 guidelines. Cost for the program is $15, which includes handouts.     Lily Youngblood, a Garner Elementary first grade student, was recently honored as one of the top 100 young artists in Texas by the Texas Art Education Association. Lily and her parents, Kristi and Clay Youngblood, traveled to the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum in Austin where students from across Texas came together for the award ceremony and reception.

  • WCPAAA awards recipients at annual ceremony

    In recognition on National Volunteer Week, the Weatherford Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association held their Annual Awards ceremony April 9 at the city council chambers. Presidential Service awards were given out to members as well as years of service awards, followed up by a presentation of volunteer hours for 2013 to the City of Weatherford.

    A Parker County man was arrested Thursday after he was accused of beating a border collie with a metal bucket, breaking several of the animal’s front teeth.
