The Purple Hulls to perform March 9

The Purple Hulls, a special Christian bluegrass duo from Kilgore, is scheduled to perform at First Baptist Church of Dennis on Sunday, March 9, at 7 p.m.

Being born and raised on a working family farm in deep East Texas didn’t stop identical red-headed twins Katy and Penny Clark, of The Purple Hulls, from finding their way to the hills of Tennessee where they began touring with various artists and writing songs for Nashville’s biggest publishing company, Sony ATV.

After five years in Music City and the Lord leading them back to their home state, The Purple Hulls continue their travels based from their family farm (where they really grow purple hull peas) and share their unique and authentic acoustic driven music with churches, festivals and venues across the country.

The Purple Hulls have recorded two CDs with their brother, Ben, and blend their voices on many original tunes, hymns and other bluegrass favorites while alternating between playing the guitar, mandolin and banjo. They were also recently featured in an episode of the TV show, “Texas Country Reporter,” which aired Feb. 15-16.

The concert is free and open to the public, and a love offering will be received. First Baptist Church of Dennis is located at 7600 FM Road 1189, just south of The Reserve at Sugar Tree. For more go to www.fbcdennis.org or www.purplehulls.com.
