Local scout Weaver honored for highest scouting rank

Boy Scout Troop 75 recently honored James Weaver, 15, at an Eagle Scout ceremony held at Couts United Methodist Church. Couts is the chartering organization for Troop 75.

James is the son of Dennis and Mary Weaver, of Weatherford. Only about 5 percent of scouts attain the highest rank of the Boy Scouts of America. An Eagle Scout must have completed at least 21 merit badges and organized a service project that benefits his church, community or school.

James’ Eagle Project was a toiletry drive for the Center of Hope. He collected items such as toilet paper, bar soap, shampoo, toothbrushes/pastes and other personal hygiene items. James collected more than 2,400 items and $405 in cash for the Center of Hope.

James has been in scouts since he was a Tiger Cub. He started at Pack 76 when he was 6 years old and bridged from Pack 76 to Troop 75. He earned his Arrow of Light rank as a Webelos, the highest Cub Scout award.

Weaver has been a member of Troop 75 since 2009 and has participated in scouting and high adventure activities, including whitewater rafting in Colorado and a 10-day Philmont trek in New Mexico.

James is a ninth grader at Trinity Christian Academy and has also earned his black belt 1st Don in Tae Kwon Do from Jeong’s Tae Kwon Do Academy.
