POLICE BLOTTER: Weatherford police log busy weekend of calls

Following are investigations, offenses and calls for service reported by the Weatherford Police Department for the period 6 a.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday:

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

Damage caused by an apparent attempted burglary attempt was reported at a business in the 200 block of Fort Worth Highway after an employee reported for work at 6:30 a.m. Friday. Damage was placed at $500.

PROPERTY THEFT

A resident in the 1200 block of West Ball Street reported Friday morning the theft of a Lincoln ACDC-220 welder, valued at $600.

THEFT

A woman who lives in the 1700 block of Martin Drive told police she let a homeless woman stay with her several days, but the guest left with some of the victim’s clothes, shoes, purses and a key to the residence. The items were valued $1,050.

EVADING ARREST

A 23-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning after he allegedly ran from an officer.

A woman called police to the 1200 block of West Interstate 20 around 1 a.m. Saturday to check on a man she said was walking in the roadway. She told police she nearly struck him with her vehicle.

The arriving officer found the man, who reportedly threw down a beer he was holding and ran into an adjacent wooded area. After a search, he was reportedly found lying in a ditch.

Jacob T. Swink was arrested for evading arrest and detention, police said.

DWI ARREST

Cliffton J. Ross, 35, was arrested by Weatherford police around 6:30 p.m. Saturday on a charge of driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years of age.

Police said an officer was dispatched to the 100 block of West Interstate 20 after a call from an off-duty officer reporting a 1996 maroon Chevrolet pickup truck was drifting from lane to lane without signaling and struck several curbs.

The off-duty officer followed the vehicle to a residence in the 1600 block of Remington Circle. The off-duty officer also advised he observed two small children in the truck with the driver.
