Police seek bank robbery suspect

WEATHERFORD — Weatherford police are seeking a suspect who robbed the Fort Worth Community Credit Union in the 1900 block of South Main Street around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, taking an unspecified amount of cash.

A man reportedly entered the bank and gave a note to a teller indicating he would harm her if she did not give him money. The teller reportedly gave him the money and he fled on foot.

Police said the suspect did not display a weapon.

The man, a heavy-set white male, was wearing a yellow and blue, horizontally striped, short sleeve polo shirt, a teal or green undershirt, blue denim shorts and white shoes. He reportedly had a light blue or grey Texas Rangers ball cap with a red “T” insignia pulled low over his eyes.

The Weatherford Police Department is encouraging anyone who may have information on this crime or who may have seen anything suspicious in the area during this time frame to contact the Weatherford Police Department at 817-598-4300 or Parker County Crime Stoppers at 817-599-5555 or 1-800-942-STOP.

Up to a $1,000 reward will be paid for information about this crime. Callers may remain anonymous.

Nearby Austin Elementary and Weatherford High School were locked down for a brief period of time shortly after the robbery.

“The purpose of the lockdowns was for the protection of our students and staff members,” Weatherford ISD Superintendent Jeffrey Hanks said. “Once we received notification that those areas around the schools were safe and secure, the lockdowns were lifted.”

Lockdown lasted about 15 minutes and students were released at their regular times, according to the school district.

“Police officers remained visible in and around the campuses,” Hanks said, “and they also continued to patrol the neighborhood areas as some students were walking home.”
