Hudson Oaks city officials will begin talks on the fiscal year 2013-14 budget with a workshop as part of Thursday night’s regular meeting.
Interim City Administrator Patrick Lawler stated in a staff report that city staff will present the working budget for both the General Fund and the Water-Wastewater Enterprise Fund. According to the report, the city is planning on $2.12 million in general fund revenue in the 2013-14 budget year, which begins in October, and having expenditures of just under $2.1 million. The extra monies will go into the city’s fund balance.
The state requires cities to keep 30 percent of their budget in a fund balance, or “rainy day” fund. Hudson Oaks has around 34 percent in its fund balance at the present time.
A preliminary line item budget for the next five years will also be looked at as part of the presentation. Decision packages and budget planning priorities for the next five years will also be discussed.
A staff report said the proposed budget was developed after meeting with council members and department heads.
A separate workshop will take place with discussion of the city’s new tagline. Lawler said the council has four options to consider for a tagline, which will go along with the city’s new logo.
Before the 7 p.m. meeting, a reception for outgoing council member Paula Wigley is scheduled beginning at 6:30 p.m. Lawler said the reception is a chance to honor Wigley for her time on the council and for the public to wish her farewell.
Wigley’s Place 5 position was taken by Marc Povero, who was sworn in during the May council meeting. The reception and meeting will take place at City Hall, 210 N. Lakeshore Dr.
