Guild presents family with quilts for new home

Weatherford Democrat

— Representatives from the Quilter’s Guild of Parker County were on hand to present quilts to Alisha Evans and her daughter during the dedication of their new home on March 8.

Joyce Coney, Comfort Quilt chairman, was accompanied by Jeanie Garvin, Joanna Swonger and Dianna Hinz. In presenting the quilts, Coney shared the sentiment of the quilters by stating, “We feel that a house is not a home without a quilt.”

The Guild has provided quilts for the families of all 13 Parker County Habitat endeavors over the years as well as quilts for various children’s agencies, battered women’s shelters, Homes for our Troops, Quilts of Valor and nursing home residents.

The Comfort Quilt program of the Guild is very active with a bee that works on the quilts, as well as the general schedule for the year, setting aside one meeting for a guild-wide Comfort Quilt workday. During such a work day in February more than 30 quilts of various sizes were quilted and completed laying a good foundation for this year’s comfort quilts. The guild usually distributes 100 and closer to 200 quilts annually.
