Guild’s quilt auction set for April 18

The members of the Quilter’s Guild of Parker County have been stitching, quilting and binding quilts as well as gathering quilting/sewing related items to present at the Eighth Annual Quilt Auction on April 18.

Each spring the QGPC holds a quilt auction as a fund raiser. Members work individually, with a friend or two or in a group (Bee) to make the quilts which are auctioned (all made here in North Texas – Parker and Palo Pinto counties). This year will bring more striking quilts from mini or wall hanging size to oversize queen/king and everything in between. Some items are seasonal.

In addition to the live auction of quilts, there will be a $1 raffle of quilting/sewing related items including a complete quilt kit which includes the backing fabric as well as a “Take it for $10” table. The “Take it for $10” idea is the brain child of member Jo Lynn O’Neil, who came up with it so specific items or groups of items could be bought outright for $10. Since its inception a couple of years ago buyers line up to be the first to claim the item(s) they consider to be exceptional buys.

Quilter’s Guild of Parker County is a non-profit organization that focuses on preserving the art of quilting and quilt making. This is accomplished by educational speakers/programs, workshops, availability of a Bee for membership and close-knit learning. The guild also participates in community activities through the Chamber of Commerce and several service-oriented organizations. The guild provides quilts for children’s organizations (The Rainbow Room, Pythian Home and A Place for Grace, to name a few), battered women’s shelters, nursing home residents, police and fire stations and supplies a quilt for each Weatherford Habitat Homeowner and all dependents living in the home at the time of dedication through the Comfort Quilt Program.

The QGPC’s Eighth Annual Quilt Auction on April 18 will be in the Great Hall of the Grace First Presbyterian Church, 606 Mockingbird Lane. Preview and registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the live auction commencing at 7 p.m.
