Still time to ‘shoo the flu’

Hospital district has flu vaccine available

The holiday season might be over but the Parker County Hospital District is still in a giving mood.

The district still has flu vaccine available and if you still haven’t received a shot, they want to give you one. They say it is not too late and the flu season continues to spread across the South Central and Southeast portions of the U.S.

The district’s outreach program in September kicked off its “Say Shoo to the Flu” campaign with the WISD employees and families event. Since then they have given more than 10,000 flu shots all over Parker County. In the school districts alone more than 6,300 students were vaccinated.

The goal of the school-based program is to track the attendance rate over a three- to five-year period to see if missed days by students decreases due to contracting the flu. Local businesses have also offered this service to their clients, allowing them to take care of two things at once.

According to the Center for Disease Control flu activity continues to increase with high levels of activity in the South Central and Southeastern regions. It’s not too late to get vaccinated. Vaccination is the single most important step you can take to protect yourself and others against infection.

They offer the vaccine to children at no cost and adults pay $10. They can file Blue Cross Blue Shield along with Medicare. This service allows a family of four to all get protected without breaking the bank. The importance of protecting yourself, protecting your family and protecting your community is what drives this program to cover every square mile of the county.

The office is at 1130 Pecan St., Weatherford. For more information call 817-341-2520.
