Friend to Friend – Staying Healthy Together event well attended

More than 75 women throughout Parker County came together for the Friend to Friend – Staying Healthy Together party that included speakers, food and exhibits.

The event took place at First United Methodist Church. Its purpose was to help women have a better understanding of breast and cervical cancer and the best way to prevent these cancers.

The emcee was Kit Marshall, the mayor of Aledo and a breast cancer survivor. Dr. Robyn Young of The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders spoke about breast cancer and the importance of mammogram. She stressed the importance of women having annual mammograms and it should continue throughout her life time.

Dr. John Parker, with the Weatherford OB/GYN clinic, spoke on cervical cancer and the importance of Pap test to detect early signs of cancer. Annie Presley with Cancer Care and a three time cancer survivor spoke about her experience with breast cancer and that attitude plays an important role in surviving and having regular exams.

There was an array of exhibitors, including agencies and groups that provide services and resources for screening and treatments. Special thanks to American Cancer Society, Moncrief Cancer Institute, Careity Foundation, Solis, Cancer Care Services, Weatherford OB/GYN, Susan G.
