POLICE BLOTTER: Retailer reports computer theft

Following are some of the offenses, investigations and calls for service reported by the Weatherford Police Department for the period 6 a.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday:

Computer theft

A business in the 100 block of East Interstate 20 reported the theft Monday of a laptop computer, valued at $1,399.99, reportedly taken by a juvenile suspect.

Firearm theft

A 33-year-old woman called police just before 2 a.m. Thursday to report that between 9 p.m. and the time she called police her vehicle, parked outside a business in the 2100 block of Tin Top Road, was broken into and burglarized with a pistol stolen. The gun, a Glock 21 tactical pistol with pink grips and a pink firepin retaining plate, was valued at $650. Also taken were two 13-round magazines, a carrying case, and 25 45-auto hollow-point bullets. Damaged to the vehicle window that was broken was placed at $250.

1:56 p.m., suspicious person, 100 block of College Park Drive.

1:57 p.m., hit-and-run wreck, 1800 block of South Main Street.

2:21 p.m., minor wreck, 500 block of North Main Street.

2:26 p.m., theft, 800 block of Santa Fe Drive.

2:50 p.m., threats made, 200 block of Cottonwood Street.

3:50 p.m., disturbance, 1100 block of Franklin Street.

4:56 p.m., disturbance, 1200 block of South Main Street.

6:16 p.m., theft, 100 block of West Oak Street.

6:48 p.m., suspicious person/panhandling, 2000 block of Santa Fe Drive.

7:12 p.m., suspicious vehicle, 2000 block of Clear Lake Road.

10:42 p.m., suspicious person, 300 block of Love Street.

11:45 p.m., suspicious person, 1800 block of South Main Street.

Thursday

12:04 a.m., prowler, 3600 block of Cliff View Loop.

12:34 a.m., disturbance, 1700 block of Fort Worth Highway.

2:34 a.m., suspicious vehicle,

1700 block of South Main Street.

2:42 a.m., suspicious person, 500 block of Front Street.

    The Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service of Parker County, in cooperation with the Parker County Master Gardeners, will conduct a workshop entitled Creating and Maintaining a Healthy, Drought-Tolerant and Sustainable Landscape.

    In June, there were seven students who explored the flora and fauna of the rainforest through music at The Burch School of Music. Each child made his or her own rain stick, along with other crafts and art work. For two hours each day for five days, students explored a different level of the rainforest, starting with the emergent layer at the top, moving through the canopy, the understory, the forest floor and the rivers. They let bats fly (black balloons) and were eaten by a boa constrictor. On the last day they dressed as natives and drummed together.

  • Republican Women to meet Aug. 14 at Doss

    The Parker County Republican Women’s monthly meeting will be Aug. 14 at the Doss Heritage and Culture Center in Weatherford. The meeting is open to the public.

    Parker County Heritage Society will meet Aug. 19 in the home of Nathan and Abby Hamessely at 410 W. Spring St. at 7 p.m.

  • AgriLife to offer parenting classes Aug. 19, 21

    The Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will offer parenting classes on Aug. 19 and 21, 2014, at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center. The classes will be from 1-5 p.m. each day and will include lunch. The cost to attend the class is $10 per person for the two-day class. Scholarships are available.

  • CASA receives national certification for its efforts

    WEATHERFORD – CASA Hope for Children of Parker and Palo Pinto County has just been awarded certification by the National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association. This certification recognizes that CASA Hope for Children is in compliance with National CASA’s high standards for quality child advocacy.
