A Parker County jury Thursday sentenced a robber who terrorized a Parker County couple in their own home last year to 70 years in prison.
David Alberto Dozal, 26, along with Daniel Wayne Anderson, who pleaded guilty in March, held Joe and Doris Ann Geer at gunpoint during the March 2012 robbery, making them lie on their living room floor as the two took jewelry, firearms, a purse and a wallet.
The men, dressed in hooded sweatshirts, reportedly forced their way into the couple’s home in the 100 block of Cahill Court northwest of Weatherford when Joe Geer answered the ringing doorbell.
Doris Geer told the Democrat last year that she thought she and her husband were going to die.
“I thought they were going to shoot us in the head,” Geer said.
After finding Dozal guilty Wednesday evening on two counts of aggravated robbery and a charge of theft of property regarding the burglary of another home the same day, the jury heard additional testimony Thursday and deliberated for less than two hours before returning with a verdict.
Dozal, who had several previous felony convictions, was sentenced to 70 years in prison on each count of aggravated robbery and received two years, the maximum allowed sentence, on the state jail felony theft offense. Dozal was also given a fine of $2,000 for each offense.
Assistant District Attorney Robert DuBoise said the sentences will run concurrently and Dozal is expected to be eligible for parole in 30 years.
Anderson received a 30-year sentence after pleading guilty to aggravated robbery in March.
An aggravated robbery charge against Jacki Lynn Martin, accused of driving the get away car during the robbery, is also pending.
