Extension service offers slate of classes, programs

Making salsas

Making Salsas and Drying Fruits, Vegetables and Herbs is Thursday, July 18. The class will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and costs $20. The registration will include recipes, canning supplies, ingredients and handouts.

Participants should bring a sack lunch. The workshop will be held at the Parker County Agricultural Service Center that is located at 604 N. Main St. in Weatherford.

The workshop will cover the basics of making salsas and the principles of drying/dehydrating foods.

They will also have the opportunity to make several kinds of salsas and practice dehydrating foods.

Participants who have water bath canners and/or dehydrators are asked to bring them in case they are needed for the workshop.

Registration is requested by Monday, July 15, by calling 817-598-6168.

Food managers certification training and exam

Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will offer a one-day food manager certification training course, “Food Safety: It’s Our Business,” for food service managers on Tuesday, June 18.

The training will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, with the examination being conducted at 5 p.m. The course will take place the Parker County Agricultural Services Center, located at 604 N. Main St., in Weatherford.

The course fee is $115 and includes training, course book, handouts and materials and the National Restaurant ServSafe Certified Professional Food Manager examination. The course book and can be picked up one week prior to the training from the extension office. The deadline to register is June 10.

The program is designed not only to prepare food service managers to pass the certification examination, but will provide valuable education regarding the safe handling of food. Special attention to food safety will help keep the many customers served safe and satisfied.

  • Driver speed, seatbelt compliance surveys show improvements

    The Weatherford Police Department utilized grant funding from the Texas Department of Transportation to fund overtime salaries for extra enforcement during the week of the Fourth of July. The extra patrols worked to ensure drivers were complying with posted speed limits, wearing seatbelts and were not driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol in an effort to keep our local roadways safe.
