Helicopter crash sends one to hospital

PARKER COUNTY — A Fort Worth man was in critical but stable condition Saturday following a plane crash four miles east of Cresson in far southeast Parker County.

William Don Hunthrop, 60, was doing touch-and-goes at Bourland Field in what was described as an “experimental helicopter” when the two-seat aircraft crashed around 11:22 a.m., according to Department of Public Safety Senior Trooper/PIO Gary M. Rozzell.

Hunthrop was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where Rozzell said he was in critical but stable condition. Rozzell said he didn’t know what direction the aircraft was going when it crashed.

DPS troopers secured the scene and were waiting on Federal Aviation Authority investigators who were en route to the crash site but had not arrived as of 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Rozzell said it was unclear what caused the aircraft to crash. Winds were blowing an estimated 15 to 20 miles per hour, but it was unclear as to whether wind had any effect in the crash.
