Lions’ luncheon speaker Dana Bowman mesmerizes

By JOHN ALLISON | President, Noon Lions Club

Recently the Weatherford Noon Lions were fascinated by their speaker, Dana Bowman.

He was a former member of the elite Golden Knights of the Special Forces of the U.S. Army parachute team. Using his skills in the Army to protect American interests the world over, Dana Bowman experienced what could have been a career ending accident.

While skydiving with his partner conducting a criss-crossing move, the two skydivers collided in midair and Bowman’s partner was killed.  What was remarkable was Bowman lived but lost both legs.

Fighting for his life in the hospital and then be able to skydive again is a remarkable feat. His courage was evident as he told his story and the problems he had to endure and conquer. When doctors told him he would never skydive again, his quest to prove all wrong became a challenge that required the utmost dedication.

During the healing process, the determined Bowman slipped out one day and went for a dive.  He is now telling the rest of the story as he continues his career.

Today, Dana Bowman is a motivational speaker telling all who will listen.  Listening to his story baffles the mind all of the problems he had endure.  Not only learning how to walk on his new legs he had to fight to show the Army he was still fit.

His mission this year is to dive around 30 times into different schools and then conduct a program explaining that life can be successfully maneuvered no matter the consequences that life throws at you.

The Noon Lions learned first hand how fortunate we are to have men like Dana Bowman going into our schools and conducting programs to show our students of the next generation “It’s not the disability,  It’s the Ability.  Never Quit.”  Thank you Dana Bowman for an outstanding story.

If you would like to contact Mr. Bowman his email address is danabowman@aol.com.
