CRESSON – The driver of a truck that overturned early Tuesday morning following a collision with another vehicle near Cresson was pronounced dead at the scene.
The wreck occurred around 5:40 a.m. on U.S. Highway 377 near the intersection of Yellowstone Road north of Cresson, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
A 2006 truck tractor pulling a box trailer driven by Randy Joe Dick, 55, struck a 2006 Toyota passenger car that was disabled, out of gas and stopped in the right-hand turning lane before the intersection, Senior Trooper Gary Rozzell said.
It was dark at the time and the car had no lights on when the truck hit the back left of the car, according to Rozzell, who said the driver attempted to regain control of the truck, which traveled to the left and right side of the highway before going off the right side and overturning.
Dick, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene, Rozzell said.
Why the truck clipped the back of the car is still under investigation, according to Rozzell, who confirmed that there was some icing on the roadway at the time, particularly in the turning lane.
DPS said the driver of the car was unknown and the only occupant of the vehicle at the scene said she was not the driver.
The woman, Susan Rae Beasley, 32, was arrested at the scene on an unrelated misdemeanor warrant.
