Shelter offers special on black pets

Weatherford Democrat

In an attempt to alleviate the shelter’s growing numbers, Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter officials are offering a special through Saturday, July 13.

All black puppies and dogs are just $25 through Saturday, including vaccinations, microchips and spay and neutering services. Statistics show that often black pets are overlooked for adoption in shelters.  Some reasons include but may not be limited to:

 • hard to get good photo to network

• hard to see facial expression in the kennels

 • some people are fearful of black pets or superstitious of black pets

• The genetics for pets to be black are stronger than other colors, in fact black labs and lab mixes are of the most euthanized dogs in the United States.

Shelter hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The shelter is located at 403 Hickory Lane in Weatherford.
