Infant's death under investigation

By CHRISTIN COYNE

The Parker County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the Wednesday death of a 3-week-old boy, according to court records.

Sean Ryan Vogel was pronounced dead at the Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Azle shortly before 1 p.m. after paramedics transported him from his home in the 100 block of Rankin Road near Azle.

The boy’s mother told a sheriff’s office investigator that she placed the infant stomach down on the bed and wrapped his head in a blanket to muffle the sound of his crying before leaving the room for several hours, according to Child Protective Services, which removed the boy’s 2-year-old sister from the home following the death.

The child had been up all night and the boy’s father was at work at the time, the parents reportedly told investigators.

Medical staff reported that the child had no signs of life when he arrived at the hospital and showed no obvious signs of trauma, according to CPS.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office had not ruled on the boy’s cause of death as of Friday afternoon.

Messages left for a Parker County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman seeking additional information regarding the investigation were not returned Friday afternoon.
